Skam, is originally Norwegian Teen Series that broadcast and produced by NRK P3, part of Norwegian government-owned NRK. Skam in english mean Shame.
Skam tell stories about teenagers in Norway, especially 5 best-friends, Chris, Vilde, Eva, Nora and Sana. Who have different background of families or neighborhood. Skam have 4 seasons and have new main character for every seasons and different story as well.
Skam have different story in every season and they’re focus on teenage issue. Such as relationship, eating disorder, difficulties, sexual assault, homosexual, religion, or mental health.
In the first season we have Eva and Jonas as a sweet couple. Eva, the girl who have a secret about the beginning of her relationship with Jonas has no friends at school. But it all changes when she comes to a party and finally meets people who will become her best friends. Which will also strengthen eva, when her relationship with Jonas became less healthy.
In the next season, we have Nora and William. Nora, an smart girl with critical thinking and feministic who falling in love with William, an rich handsome and popular asshole in the school. Love story between Nora and William feels so sweet at first. But ended up have too many drama, especially when William suddenly move to London in the next season. But, There are plenty scenes in this season that will keep your eyes watching, especially for Slow motion scenes.
The third season is telling story about Isak, who find difficulties to recognize his true self, but everything change when he meets with Even, a guy who accept his self the way it is. In this season you can find many lessons to not afraid to be yourself.
The last season is Sana. A muslim girl who wear hijab in the society. Sana meets many struggle in her teenage life, between her lust and her faith. Between who understands and judging her by what she wear and her lifestyle. Honestly, this is most amazing season for me. Cause this season taught me to not easily judging each other. And to open up and respect to each other no matter their nationally, skins, or religion. This season taught me to not generalized everyone.
It’s so sad cause this series have to end in 4 seasons, because basically every character deserves a season.
Skam broke viewers records since the first time they launch in 2015 with no promotion. The first season be the most-watched episodes in NRK’s history. In the middle of Season 2, Skam break another records as half of NRK’s traffic. And since season 3, Skam broke all streaming records in Norway, along with viewership records in Denmark and Sweden. In this season also attracted huge international audience and fan base. Fans start to create Translations version, so that Skam are easily to understood by international community.
Skam becames very popular teen web drama series. Demand for Skam to air in various countries are soaring, but NRK can’t broadcast the original Skam outside the country due to copyright issue. Because basically, Skam is owned by Norwegian Government to Norwegian audience. That’s why several Europe country create their own Skam version but still based on Norwegian Skam story.
So far, Skam has been remakes on 4 countries, Italy, France, German and Austin US. Julie Andem, director of Skam Norway also work on Skam Austin.
